public suffix list というのがあるらしい。eTLD（effective Top Level Domain）の一覧として機能するもので、co.jp や jp などが入っている。ここに github.io なども入っていたりするらしい。各種ブラウザがこのリストの中に、Cookie の共有されるべき領域としてリクエストで与えられているようなドメインが入っていたら、それは広すぎるので阻止するような働きを実現するために利用されているらしい。
